New Music Video For “Memory King” Out Now!

August 19, 2021

We have been absolutely terrible about updating this blog section of the website. We’re sorry…ugh…we know!

Some of you actually come here to check up on the ole CC, and you should be rewarded, not punished, for staying away from social media and going straight to the horse’s mouth. So, our new policy is that the newsletter, whenever it is published, will be re-printed here, with slight adjustments as necessary. You should definitely subscribe to our newsletter – right on the front page of our site, just scroll down and enter your email – so the updates you right into your inbox, but it’ll be here as well.

So, let’s get on with it:

We said we’d drop a new video this summer! We did! We are thrilled to announce the music video debut of “Memory King.” Thrilled for you to check this out, stoked to hear your thoughts! Comment away, please!

One of the things we’ve been most excited about recently is the debut of this music video. We and Jase Harper, the graphic illustrator, have been hard at work on it since 2019 when ‘God How I Envy The Deaf’ (GHIETD) was released! Suffice it to say – things were derailed, and this puppy’s been in the works for nearly two years at this point. And it was derailed, honestly, just because Jase had too much animation and illustration work during the pandemic and was unable to devote time to this. We love to see his success and growth and were more than happy to let this sit on the backburner for a bit.

But now – FINALLY – we present to you our amazingly avian animated music video epic saga for ‘Memory King’ – the fourth song on GHIETD (and many people’s favorite song!). It is one of our favorite CC music videos. We hope you’ll enjoy the ride just as much as we do.

A Statement from Jase:
After over ten years producing countless gig posters, t shirts, Eps and LP covers as well as a heap of merch it seemed about time to add a film clip to my ever-growing Caustic Casanova portfolio.

When Francis first asked if I’d be interested, I knew I wanted to create something for the track ‘Memory King’ off their latest Album ‘God How I Envy the Deaf’. A slow burning but epic piece that would fit perfectly into the Birdtopia world building that we created for the album art.

At 5min 45 it was no mean feat for a one-person animation team and after several setbacks I’m pleased it’s now getting its wings and being launched into the cosmic unknown.

A Statement from Fran:
Jase Harper, with whom we’ve collaborated for well over a decade, and I worked on the concept and story for this video for months and months, before his work schedule and the pandemic nearly put an end to the whole project. We pressed on, thankfully, and Jase’s tireless work finally paid off. We now present the complete, beautiful, insane music video for “Memory King”, off our 2019 album God How I Envy The Deaf. Within the dystopian bird universe depicted in that album’s art, the story revolves around a pigeon drummer who has her livelihood taken away because she will not agree to produce only government approved music. She signs up for an extremely dangerous space mission, one of the few available jobs for former artists who refuse to comply with the regime’s orders. In her cosmic journey, within her own mind and out in deep space, she encounters characters from throughout the Caustic Casanova artistic universe, including the legendary space squid and the banana cow. As for the thrilling conclusion of self-sacrifice, well, you’ll just have to watch the video.

Oh, btw – our debut shows back, in Frederick, MD last Friday night with The Obsessed, Et Mors and Crowhunter, and in Baltimore, MD on Saturday night with Yatra, Solace, Brimstone Coven, Jakethehawk, Hot Blood, I Am The Liquor, Stonecutters, Atomic Motel, Blind Scryer and Spiral Grave (wow, what a lineup!) were both outstanding experiences. THANK YOU to everyone who made them so special. It feels good to be back.

Oh…one more thing! Stef launched her own heavy music themed coffee brand “Buzz Castle Coffee” – you can try some coffee FREE with the purchase of our brand new CC mugs HERE or HERE. And we have a grimly tropical new “Black Metal Mana-Tee” Shirt design, created by the one and only heavy metal art legend David Paul Seymour. Buy HERE or HERE!
